SOCI 426 — Introduction to Demographic Methods

Introduction to core demographic concepts and methods for analyzing population size, structure, and dynamics. Topics include the collection, evaluation, and analysis of demographic data from censuses, vital registration, and surveys; measures of fertility, mortality, and migration; life table construction; stable population theory; population projections; and related themes. Emphasis is placed on how populations change through growth, mortality, fertility, marriage, migration, and shifts in rates and composition, as well as the strengths and limitations of demographic measures and techniques.
